Hello!
The first thing people usually ask me is “Hey Jamie, how long have you been shooting pictures for?” The answer is as long as I can remember. Cliché as it is, it’s true. When I was a kid, my father was never afraid to hand me his old film camera and let me burn through roll after roll after roll of ilm. Sure my photos may have been portraits of G.I Joes and Lego, but this is where I began to develop my eye for picture-taking, composition and lighting. I haven’t stopped since.
As a photographer, I don’t believe in posing, staging or 'smiling on the count of three.’ My style is different. Rather than capture moments, I look for moments in between moments. What happens after you smile for the camera, when you’re completely natural and totally unaware that I’m shooting. I call these honest moments. They reflect the true personality of whomever I’m photographing, and they make the most magical photos of all. The best way to capture these moments is to make people feel as comfortable as possible. A photo shoot should never be stressful or feel like work. Even if you are one of those people who believe they take the worst photos on the face of the planet, I'll work with you to capture smiles and honest moments you didn't know were possible.
So what do I do when I’m not photographing awesome people? I venture in the wilderness, and search out moments and scenes that inspire me in nature. Like an owl in a tree, a frog peering through the lillypads, or a cardinal singing in the morning sunlight. Capturing and sharing moments is a true hobby of mine and something I’m proud of. My comic book collection is also pretty darn stellar, but that’s another conversation entirely.
